Description
r Royal Golden is a unique watermelon that has pinkish-red flesh with white seeds, and a rind that turns bright golden when ripe. The leaves have a tendency to naturally turn yellow as well. The melons weigh in between 10-25 lbs. and resemble a pumpkin, but definitely have that wonderful, sweet watermelon flavor! Open pollinated.

r WHERE & WHEN TO PLANT: For earlier fruiting or in short growing seasons, plant seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before last spring frost. Accustom plants to outside conditions by moving seedlings to a sheltered area for a week before planting in the garden. Can be sown outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. We prefer to plant the seeds in rows approx. 1/2 – 1” deep, spaced 2-3 feet apart.
r
r REMARKS: Watermelons prefer a sunny, well-drained location. Soil should be well fertilized with compost/manure. Melons also do well with additions of calcium sulfate to the soil. Evenly water throughout the summer. Mulch with black plastic, straw, or grass clippings. Harvest this melon when the rind mostly or completely turns a bright golden-yellow color.
