r This chocolate bar is made from organic cacao from Dominican Republic and Peru, organic sugar from Paraguay and Costa Rica, and organic vanilla from Madagascar, all grown by small farmer co-ops. When farmers organize into co-ops they gain crucial market access, run their business democratically, and decide together how to invest in their communities. Since 2004, we’ve partnered with El Quinacho co-op, in Sivia, Peru. Founded in 1970 in the Apurimac River Valley of Peru, El Quinacho is a co-operative of about 220 members. In a region scarred by a history of social and political conflict, this resilient co-operative has focused on providing viable alternatives for its members and their community.
