- Cooking time:Allow four quarts of water for each pound of pasta.Bring water to a rapid boil then add pasta and 1 Tbsp salt, optional.Cook uncovered in rapid boiling water until pasta is tender yet firm (al dente).Stir occasionally.Approximate cooking time is 8 to 10 minutes.Do not overcook.Drain pasta immediately in a colander.Serve at once.
